The Future

Our Vision

Conserving wildlife and natural habitats through community engagement and sustainable practices.

Our Roots & Chronology

The Wildlife Foundation (TWF) is a Kenya registered Non-Governmental Organization (NGO), not-for-profit organization whose mandate is to support conservation biodiversity sustainability and conserve wildlife dispersal areas through innovative technology and benefit sharing with communities.  TWF was established in the year 2000 as part of a response to an immense need to save Kenya’s wildlife dispersal areas in general and the wildlife dispersal area of Nairobi National Park in particular from increasing pressures of uncontrolled development, land fragmentation and human/wildlife conflict.

Community Impact

The Wildlife Foundation (TWF) empowers local Maasai communities by bridging the gap between conservation and sustainable livelihoods. Their impact is centered on benefit sharing, ensuring that protecting wildlife provides tangible economic advantages to those living alongside it.

Key pillars of their community impact include:

  • Economic Empowerment: Through the TWF Bead Work Initiative, Maasai women gain alternative income sources by creating handcrafted jewelry, reducing their total reliance on livestock.
  • Education and Awareness: TWF collaborates with local schools and volunteers on litter pick-up drives and waste management, fostering a culture of environmental stewardship.
  • Conflict Mitigation: By sharing data from camera traps and tracking predator movements, TWF helps pastoralist communities better prepare for coexistence, protecting both their livestock and local predators.
  • Land Restoration: Volunteers and community members work together to remove invasive species like Opuntia, which restores healthy grazing lands for both community livestock and indigenous wildlife.
